What You Will Learn
An arterial ulcer is a perfusion problem wearing a wound’s clothing: it sits where the blood supply runs out, it is dry, punched-out and painful, and it will not heal until flow is restored. This module teaches you to read the ischemic limb at the bedside, recognize the arterial ulcer and tell it apart from venous and neuropathic ulcers, measure perfusion with the ankle-brachial index and know when the ankle pressure lies, stage limb threat with Fontaine, Rutherford and WIfI, and manage in the right order: reduce cardiovascular risk, restore perfusion, then treat the wound, never compressing or debriding a limb whose blood supply you have not confirmed.
