What You Will Learn
A chronic wound is not a wound that heals slowly. It is a wound that has become biochemically different, and you cannot move it forward until you know which mechanism is holding it. This module teaches the science underneath every wound care decision: the four overlapping phases of healing and their expected time course, the cells, growth factors, cytokines and matrix that drive repair, healing by primary, secondary and tertiary intention, and what an on-track acute wound looks like at each milestone. It then explains why wounds stall, with protease imbalance, senescent cells and biofilm as the usual culprits, and finishes with the local and systemic factors you can actually change, moist wound healing and the TIME framework as the bridge from science to the bedside.
